Have your septic tank cleaned regularly.
Having your septic tank cleaned on a regular basis is essential to your maintenance program. It is the only way to remove sludge and greases before they can harm your secondary filter. State regulations require that the tank be cleaned at least every 3 years and systems with filters need to be maintained every 6 months. If you have a garbage disposal or four or more people, you will need more periodic maintenance.
Alternate septic flow yearly.
Some septic systems have a flow diverter in the distribution box. Flow should be alternated yearly for maximum system life. Ask our service technician for assistance if you do not know where the diverter is located.
Visually inspect the aeration system.
If you have a home aeration system, special care
is required. It is important to make sure the aerator is running
continuously. Air bubbles should be seen in the aeration compartment
and vacuum should be present.
Because most aerator maintenance is beyond the expertise of the
average homeowner, our technician will check for proper operation on
every visit.
Most aeration tanks today have a filter that must be maintained
every 6 months. If your system is not maintained regularly,
catastrophic results will occur. We offer a service agreement that
keeps your system in check.
Conserve water.
Pools need a lot of water. Septic tanks don't! All septic systems will work better with less water than with more.

Don't put these items down your drain!!!
Flushable wipes, even those that are marked
"Septic Safe", grease, cooking fats, oils, coffee grounds,
cigarettes, facial tissue, dental floss, hair, paints, female
sanitary products, water softener backwash, and toilet tablets
containing bleach.
Also try to limit the use of anti-bacterial soaps.
Don't build anything over or within 10 feet of any part of your system.
Don't let anyone drive heavy vehicles over any portion of the system.
Care of your system doesn't have to be a lot of hard work! The efforts you put forth by following these Do's and Don'ts can:
-Extend the functional life of the system, thereby protecting your investment.
-Protect the environment.
-Protect the public health for you, your family, and your neighbors.
It's ok to use:
Detergents. The very best types to use are those that are marked LOW SUDSING-BIODEGRADEABLE.
Bleaches. Oxygen based bleaches, such as Biz or Clorox II, are safer to use.
Toilet Tissue. There is no one brand better than another.
Conserve water by:
-Installing aerators on faucets.
-Installing water saver showerheads.
-Adjusting the water closet to flush properly with the least amount of water.
-Using front load or suds-saver washing.
The Ohio Department of Health has tested a variety of enzymes and additives sold for septic owners. None to date have proven beneficial; some may even harm your system!
